Phenoxypropyl penicillin (Oracillin ‘Takeda’), a semi-synthetic penicillin, was studied to evaluate their possible uses in ophthalmology.
1. Phenoxypropyl penicillin was effective in 75.9% out of 47 strains of pathogenic staphylococcl isolated from infected focus in the eye.
2. Phenoxypropyl penicillin admistered orally was well diffused into Serum, but poorly into the aqueous humor in rabbits.
3. Two patients with external ocular infection and 9 patients with corneal infection were treated with phenoxypropyl penicillin 750-1,000mg/day.
