JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThe drug activity of bleomycin (BLM) against tubercle bacilli was examined in vitro. Fifty three strains tested were isolated from the in-patients affected with pulmonary tuberculosis. KIRCHNER agar containing 10% albumin was used for the examination.
(1) BLM showed a strong antimicrobial activity against the all strains tested including streptomycin, kanamycin, viomycin, capreomycin, or rifampicin resistant ones.

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThe protective effect of dicloxacillin on an inactivation of Ampicillin caused by β-lactamase was studied in vitro.
The following conclusions were obtained.
1) When both Ampicillin and Dicloxacillin were employed, an increase in antibacterial activity was observed for Klebsiella pneumoniae, Shigella boydii, Shigella flexneri, Proteus vulgaris OX-19 and Proteus morganii Kono.
2) No increase in antibacterial activity of these drugs was demonstrated for ampicillin-resistant strains of Staph. aureus isolated clinically.
3) A synergistic effect of these drugs was proved by the tube dilution method for the strains for which the same effect was shown by agar streak method.
4) Same synergistic effect of these drugs was proved by growth curve for both Proteus vulgaris OX-19 and Proteus morganii Kono.
5) Dicloxacillin showed a competitive inhibition in degradation of ampicillin brought about by cell-bound penicillinase extracted from Proteus morganii Kono.View full abstractDownload PDF (908K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESS1. The synergism of hetacillin and dicloxacillin in vitro was demonstrated in various gram-negative bacteria.
2. The combination effect was examined for bacteria growth curve of E. coil, Proteus morganii. When Dicloxacillin was combined with Hetacillin, the lag phase was prolonged by the ratios of combination (2: 1, 1: 1, 1: 2) of both antibiotics.
3. The enzymatic degradation of hetacillin by the crude penicillinase from Proteus morganii Kono was prevented in presence of Dicloxacillin. Dicloxacillin showed a competitive inhibition for Hetacillin degradation of penicillinase.View full abstractDownload PDF (829K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThe following results were obtained in clinical use of josamycin-tartrate in 9 cases of thoracotomy.
1. Antibacterial efficacy
(1) In 5 cases, josamycin-tartrate 400 mg in 5% G/W 500 ml was given intravenously for 6 hours on 1st day postoperatively, and 8 hours later the serum level of the drug was proved to be effective level.
(2) In 5 cases, josamycin-tartrate 400 mg in 40 ml N-saline was given for 3 minutes intravenously during lobectomy, and one hour later the lung tissue level and the serum level of the drug were measured. The lung tissue level of it was 5 to 10 times higher than that of serum level.
2. Side effects
(1) Blood pressure dropped temporarily in one shot intravenous administration, but was constant in slow drip infusion. The drug had little influence on other vital signs.
(2) No liver and kidney function disturbance was noticed in some cases josamycin-tartrate 800 mg in 5% G/W 500 ml was given intravenously daily for 7 days.View full abstractDownload PDF (476K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSBasic studies were carried out on 3', 4'-dideoxykanamycin B (DKB), a new antibiotic derived from kanamycin B. DKB proved to be highly effective against Klebsiella pneumoniae, Salmonella, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. DKB showed similar MICs against P. aeruginosa to those of gentamicin (GM). Serum level of DKB reached a peak (38.0 mcg/ml on average) 30 minutes following a single intramuscular injection of 20 mg/kg. Of the injected DKB 63.3% was recovered from the urine within 24 hours. The fact that high levels of DKB were detected in both serum and urine might suggest an excellent therapeutic effects in the treatment of systemic infections as well as urinary infections. The biliary excretion rate of DKB was only 1.22%.View full abstractDownload PDF (626K) -
