Oxygen consumption at the tilapia
Oreochromis niloticus (body weight 200±32g) (M±SD) were measured under normoxic and hypoxic conditions at 20.2±0.5°C, 25.0±0.2°C, 30.0±0.2°C and 34.9±0.1°C.
Under normoxic condition, the consumption (ml/min⋅kg) showed 0.68±0.09 at 20.2°C, 1.08±0.12 at 25.0°C, 1.33±0.13 at 30.0°C and 2.00±0.14 at 34.9°C. Thermal coefficient (Q
10) were 2.62 at between 20.2°C and 25.0°C, 1.52 at between 25.0°C and 30.0°C, and 2.30 at between 30.0°C and 34.9°C. Therefore,
O. niloticus must be exhibited a suppresion in oxygen consumption at between 25.0°C and 30.0°C.
Under hypoxic condition, critical oxygen tension increased with the increase of water temperature: oxygen saturation 10.9±0.2% below at 20.2°C, 17.6±1.5% below at 25.0°C, 26.2±1.6% below at 30.0°C and 31.6±1.0% below at 34.9°C.
