In order to evaluate the genetic contribution of stocked fish to the wild population of
Hypomesus nipponensis, we examined the genetic variation and population structure of its wild, hatchery and introduced populations in Lake Shinji by mtDNA Cyt
b analysis. A total of 14 haplotypes were found, and only 2 haplotypes were shared between the wild and hatchery populations. Both pairwise
FST and Φ
ST values significantly differed between the two populations (
P<0.01). Some haplotypes shared by the wild and introduced populations might imply the possibility of a genetic effect of stocks of Lake Suwa origin on the wild population in Lake Shinji.
