Results of the clinical survey of 120 outpatients with asthma bronchiale who visited our clinic during 1960 were statistically analysed and following findings were obtained. 1. The frequency of asthmatic outpatients were higher in the third decade and in the sixth than in the others. 2. Fourty of the patients had their first attack before ten years of age, and 85% before thirty years of age. It was also noticed that there were many patients 20% whose first attack occurred in the third decade. 3. The frequency of asthmatic attacks was elevated in September, October, and November during a year, and from evening to dawn in a day. 4. The first attack in 70% of the patients was induced by common cold or rhinitis, and that of 30% by inhalation of house dust or smoke. 5. A coldweather, a weather before rain or storm, common cold, overeating or strain also proved to have some relation to indure attachs. 6. Positivity of cutaneous tests by inhalatory allergens was as follows: when examined by wheal, house dust 60%, Japanese short ragweed 24%, short ragweed 38%, giant ragweed 28%, western ragweed 53%, Japanese ceder 32% and red pinetree 19% respectively, and when examined by erythema house dust 73%, Japanese short ragweed 33%, short ragweed 47%, giant ragweed 36%, western ragweed 56%, Japanese ceder 32% and red pinetree 25% respectively. 7. Family history of allergic diseases proved positive in 85% of the patients. Thirty-six % of the patients had urticaria in their past histories and 14% had eczema.

Changes of glucose metabolism in the liver by the anaphylactic shock was studied. The shock was experimentally induced in dogs by the sensitization of the dogs with egg albumine. The pfortal vein blood and the hepatic vein blood was separately and successively collected using hepatic catheters in order to investigate changes in the liver exclusively. After the anaphylactic shock the blood glucose in pfortal vein blood decreased at first then slightly increased, while it markedly increased in the hepatic vein blood. In other words, glucose was released from the liver by the anaphylactic shock. The pyruvic acid increased in the pfortal vein blood, and it decreased in the hepatic vein blood at first, then slightly increased. The marked increase of lactic acid was observed in the both of pfortal and hepatic vein blood. Citric acid was decreased both in the pfortal and hepatic vein blood. Serum potassium increased remarkably in the hepatic vein blood after the shock. Serum inorganic phosphorus was not significantly changed in the pfortal vein blood but it increased in the hepatic vein blood after the shock. These data suggest the increase of anaerobic glycolysis in the liver by the anaphylactic shock.

The anaphylactic shock was induced in dogs by sensitization of the dogs with egg alubumin and the liver tissues were successively obtained from the dogs and the glycogen in them was quantatively measured. The liver glycogen was gradually decreased after the shock. The simultaneous histological studies, using PAS stain, revealed that this decrease occured mainly in the cells located at the central zone of the hepatic lobules. The changes of the blood white cells in number by the shock was investigated in the hepatic and pfortal vein blood obtained separately by hepatic catheters. The number of white cells decreased in minimum 5 minutes after the shock and then gradually increased. The decrease was more marked in the hepatic vein blood than in the pfortal vein blood and this suggests the sequestration of the cells in the liver. Many white cells were observed in the hepatic sinusoids in the histological preparations stained with hematoxylin and eosin.
