In view of the fact that quinoline or quinone derivatives have anti-allergic actions, many patient with branchial asthma have been treated effectively with chloroquine and phytonadione. Favorable effects of their long-term use upon bronchial asthma were reported in the previous paper. The present report deals with the action of menaquinone (VIT. K_2), activated form of phytonadione (VIT. K_1), upon active and passive cutaneous anaphylaxis of guinea pigs and upon the asthmatic patients. The action of menaquinone upon PCA of guinea pigs was markedly inhibitive, but upon ACA of guinea pigs not so pronounced. Out of 92 asthmatic patients treated with menaquinone, 60 patients were investigated as the object to be estimated the effect of menaquinone. Out of 60 cases, 21 cases (35 per cent) were remarkably improved, 31 cases (51.6 per cent) considerably improved and 8 cases (13.4 per cent) unimproved. The drug proved to be effective in about 87 per cent of the treated and asthmatic attacks were no longer observed in 35 per cent of them. The side effect of the drug were seen in only one patient who showed slight exanthema.

This is the studies on the behaviours of the peritoneal macrophages against proteins and other materials of the different molecular weight. From the results obtained by the studies on the mechanism of the granuloma formation, we have had some doubts on the role of the so-called cell bound antibody as a deter minant factor for the cellular reactions. The fundmental abilities of the peritoneal macrophages for the differentiation against proteins and other materials of different molecular weight were studied by using the agar bullet method established by us. Agar stick, 0.2 cm in diameter, mixed with several kinds of the foreign proteins and other materials was dipped into the agar. The agar bullet was inserted into the periotoneal cavity and then it was taken out after sacrifice. In the all cases of the control, albumin and gamma globulin sensitized guinea pig, the peritoneal macrophages including neutrophiles reacted into the center of the agar mixed with bovine gamma globulin and high molecular P. V. P. and dextran and the cellular reaction could not be demonstrated in the bullets with the albumin and low molecular P. V. P. and dextrand. From these facts the important factor for cellular reaction seems not to be dependent on the so-called cell bound antibody, but on the molecular weight of the foreign substances.

It is well known that the basic immunofluorescence pattern of kidney biopsied sections of lupus nephritis is the deposition of immunoglobulins and β_1C-globulin in glomerular basement membrane (GBM) as coarse granules. In our two patients with SLE and nephrotic syndrome, however, γG- and β_1C-globulin was found in (1) GBM as fine granules and in (2) all cell nuclei of biopsied kidney sections. At the time of biopsy, the exacerbation of clinical symptoms and the elevation of the titer of antinuclear factors in serum were observed. As this immunofluorescence pattern has never been described before, the correlation between clinical menifestations and immunofluorescence pictures was discussed.

Kinin-forming enzmes activated from human plasma by 3 activation methods-acetone, salting-out and casein-were investigated. Four components by acetone activation (pI 4.5, 6.5, 6.8-6.9, 7.8) and 1 or 2 by salting-out and casein activations (pI 4.5 or pI 4.3-4.6) were recognized. These results were compared and discussed with those obtained by the studies of Webster, Habermann, Jacobsen, Colman and Armstrong which had been separately done and never discussed with each other. Thus our present interpretation with human plasma kallikrein or kinin-forming enzymes was described.
