Low-molecular-weight carbohydrates accumulated in Pardosa astrigera were identified and seasonal changes in the contents were correlated with the change in cold tolerance. The overwintering nymphs accumulated a high concentration of glycerol together with a small amount of myo-inositol. The accumulation of such molecules was at least in part associated with the acquisition of chilling tolerance but not with the depression of the supercooling point.
New distribution records of populations of the Latrodectus geometricus Koch 1841 (Araneae: Theridiidae) from Gujarat in India is recorded. Information on its behaviour in captivity, diet and habitat preference is also provided. Accidental synanthropic introductions are the most likely cause of these additional records.
Up to the present, four Hahnia species are known from Japan: H. corticicola, H. martialis, H. nava and H. pinicola. Further two species are newly recognized in Japan. One is new to science, described as Hahnia tanikawai sp. nov. The other, H. thorntoni is newly recorded from Japan. These two species are easily distinguishable from the other congeners by their copulatory organs.
A new species of Cyrtophora is described on the basis of specimens collected from Trang Province, Thailand, under the name of Cyrtophora sextuberculata n. sp. This species can be distinguished from other congeners by the elongated abdomen having three pairs of tubercles. The shape of epigyne of this species resembles that of C. crassipes (Rainbow 1897), but the abdomen of the latter has only a pair of dorsal tubercles and bifurcated posterior end. The male of the latter species is still unknown.
A total of twelve species belonging to the family Cheliferidae have been reported previously from Iran. Rhacochelifer melanopygus (Redikorzev 1949) is newly recorded from Iran, and measurements and illustrations of this species are given.
The article presents new data on gamasid mites associated with bat (Chiroptera: Vespertilionidae) on Kunashiri Island. Three species (Macronyssus charusnurensis, M. granulosus, M. hosonoi) are described for this area for the first time. A description of a new species Spinturnix uchikawai sp. nov., illustrations, and key to species of the genus Spinturnix for the boreal zone of Eastern Palaearctic region are given.
Stereotydeus areolatus Womersley 1935 (Acari: Penthalodidae) is recorded for the first time from forest soils of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Additional characteristics, SEM images, and the first description of the male of this species are provided. A list of Stereotydeus species and known distributions are also provided.
The paper is devoted to new taxonomic and faunistic data on five Lyssomanes species from French Guiana. Three new species are diagnosed, figured and described: L. aya sp. nov. (♀), L. courtiali sp. nov. (♂♀), and L. rudis sp. nov. (♀). A previously unknown female is described for L. tapirapensis Galiano 1996. New faunistic records are provided for L. remotus Peckham & Peckham 1896 and L. tapirapensis.
A linyphiid spider, Lepthyphantes cultellifer Schenkel 1936, collected from Xiaowutai Mountains, China, is redescribed and figured on the basis of both the sexes. Its female is reported for the first time.
