The development of electrophoresis in recent years has led to the discovery of a whole series of genetically determined variants of different plasma proteins. For any experimental follow-up of peculiarities in synthesis of these proteins, the knowledge of phenotypical specificity in plasma protein of a given experimental animal is first needed. Beaton et al. 1) and Espinosa 2) described the fractionation of rat plasma protein in detail, but did not mention haptoglobin. As a first step in the study of genetic and non-genetic factors affecting the synthesis of human haptoglobin, this paper presents the species specificity in electrophoretic behavior of rat plasma haptoglobin and its quantitative determination.
