An underwear made of a stretchable knitted fabric fits tightly on the skin when worn. Care must be taken of the amount of clothing pressure caused by the tight-fitting cloth, and its psychological and physiological effects on the wearer. There seemed to be correlations among the deformation of an underwear when it is in use, clothing pressure, physiological disturbance (disturbance of blood flow), and bodily comfort (psychological restraining sensation), and the following results were experimentally obtained: 1) As a result of computation of correlation between respective two out of clothing pressure, disturbance of blood flow, and psychological sensation around the elbow joint, it has been found that each of the respective two has a close correlation. In particular, that between a clothing pressure, P, and an amplitude, Va, of pulse wave through the plethysmograph, may be expressed by the following equation: P = 313 - 95Va 2) By applying the above relation to the clothing pressure of an underwear, it has been estimated that the effect of a clothing pressure on the elbow joint reduces the amplitude of pulse wave by 80%. In reality, however, it seems that the clothing pressure of an underwear will not have such a great effect on a human beings, because the clothing pressure on the internal part of an elbow joint is lower than that of its outer part.
