The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of the introduction of Aikido into physical education at a university.
The examination was conducted on 71 female students at a university in Tokyo.
Changes in the feeling of wellbeing, physical activity levels, skill achievements, and self-evaluation in physical strength improvement were observed among the students during the course of one semester.
As a result of participating in the Aikido classes, we found an improvement in positive emotions among the students after an Aikido class, compared with their feelings before the class.
In addition, the Aikido classes improved skill achievement and self-evaluation in physical strength among students after one semester.
From the above, it was confirmed that the university physical education class of Aikido was effective in improving the emotions, physical strength, and skill-acquisition abilities of the practitioners.
As shown by the mandate of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology that Budo be a compulsory subject at junior high school it is useful that the various effects of the introduction of Aikido are shown, given that an examination of a physical education class is rare.
