By the iron oxide powder-d.c.arc spectrographic method, the concentration of yttrium from 0.0001 to 0.6 per cent in iron and steel is determined.YII 3202 .323 A is found the best out of sixteen spectrum lines between 3, 000 and 4, 500A.It is found that by this method the concentration of yttrium of 0.0016 to 0.246 per cent in steel is determined with the standard deviation of 0 .0001 to 0 .02 per cent.By using this sample as the standard in the ingot spectrographic method, the calibration curves of YII 3710.290 A that is found the best for the arc or spark technique are made .A high voltage a.c.arc method is better than a spark because of the limit of detection and the linear range.By using the same standard, the concentration of yttrium of 0 .002 to 0.246 per cent is determined with the standard deviation of 0.006 per cent by the fluorecent x-ray method with YKα.
