A spectrometric system with a vidicon detector suitable for Abel inversion of spectral line profiles was composed, and a simple procedure for measurement of the lateral distribution of line profiles and for data correction was also proposed.
The background nature of the vidicon was examined, and the influences of the uncertainty of the position of symmetry center and the radius on the Abel inversion was discussed.
Using this system and procedure, the radial and axial distribution of 1-b line in an argonhydrogen plasma jet was determined. The distribution of the electron density was firstly deduced from half-maximum width of Hβ line, and secondly from fitting to the theoretical Stark-broadening line shape. The temperature distribution was determined from the electron density with an assumption of LTE.
