The fundamental quantities of the copper-zinc wire arc such as vapor density, electron density and arc temperature were spectroscopically investigated by taking the spectral-image nhotogranh of the arc.
The spectral-image sizes of the anode spot and the cathode spot were, also, measurect from the spectral-image photographs. The zinc spectral-image size of the cathode spot was much larger than the copper spectral-image size of the cathode spot.
The ratio of the zinc vapor rate in the arc between the copper-zinc electrodes to tne zinc atomic number rate in electrodes was named here the vapor enhancement. It was found that the vapor enhancement was exceedingly large when the zinc rate in electrode is small and the melt of the wire electrode happens.
It was also found out that the vapor enhancement can be related to the spectral-image size of the cathode spot.
