When using a multichannel detector at a wavenumber
K0 of a monochromator we need to determine the corresponding wavenumber dispersion or the relation between the shift δ
k from wavenumber
K0 and channel number
Xc. To calibrate this dispersion, we utilized a series of sharp spectra with an exactly equal interval, in wavenumber unit, which is generated by a Fabry-Perot interferometer from white spectra . At eleven wavenumbers
K0 from 14, 000 cm
-1 to 24, 000cm
-1 the channel numbers of such spectra were measured with high accuracy and a correction curve was determined from these data which was expressed by power series of the fifth-order of both δ and
K0 . This curve gives wavenumber shift δ
k from channel numbers
Xc of spectra at an arbitrary wavenumber
K0.
The present method is very simple and accurate and can be applied to whole visible regions without any sources radiating line spectra .
