Spectra of rod steel samples of various diameters and of briquette samples containing Fe at various concentration levels are taken by a medium quartz spectrograph under various source conditions.
Quantitative study of self-absorption and measurement of excitation temperature are carried out.
According to the results of experiment with the use of multiplets of FeI, it is found that the selfabsorption increases as the diameter of samples decreases from 13mm to 3mm.The excitation temperature is found to become lower when the diameter decreases.
Results of experiment on briquette samples show that as the concentration of Fe increases, the self-absorption also increases and the excitation temperature decreases. These results are not inconsistent with the results obtained on steel rod samples.
Discussions based on the extension of Semenova's law are given to explain the experimental results.
