Concerning 11 species of Asarum distributed in Taiwan and mainland China, 2n=24 is reported for A. leptophyllum, A. caudigerum var. caudigerum, A. macranthum, A. hayatanum, A. taitonense, and A. ichangense, 2n=26 for A. chinense, A. maximum, A. sagittarioides and A. petelotii, and 2n = 39 for A. splendens. Chromosome numbers for eight species are reported for the first time. The present study suggests that 2n=26 is widespread in sect. Heterotropa of China, and that the species of sect. Heterotropa closely resemble in karyotype North American species which are often separated as the genus Hexastylis.
