To investigate the influence of the components of glasses on the ultraviolet absorption, some kinds of glasses were prepared and their spectra were messured to λ 180 mμ.
The absorption edges of glasses containing Ti, Fe, and the heavy metals shift to the long wave-length and especially, in the lead glass the maximum of the absorption band appears at λ237 mμ. As the maximum of this band coincides with that of the mixed solution of the lead-and the sodium acetates, the author considers that the appearance of this band is due to the loose binding between unseturated oxygen and lead ion in the network of SiO
