Dislocations in ferroelectrics give rise to stress fields around them, resulting in electric polarization. The stress τyz in rochelle salt crystal, which may affect the shape of domain boundary, arises from screw dislocations parallel to b- and c- axes, and edge dislocation parallel to a- axis.
A screw dislocation, approximately perpendicular to a domain boundary in rochelle salt crystal, should be accompanied by a twin dislocation, the existence of which appears to provide a possible explanation of domain boundary movement under smaller stresses.
