In mid-March 2023, the hospital discontinued neurosurgical admissions and surgical care beginning in April of the same year. This institution had historically treated acute and chronic neurological disorders using neurosurgery and neurology, but it became necessary to change the treatment method in April. Aiming to treat 50,000 patients, the hospital is the only general hospital in the Kuji Medical Area. In addition, no neurosurgeons are employed by other healthcare facilities in the Kuji Medical Area. As a result, it was agreed upon to request that strokes that need neurosurgical intervention be treated in the nearby Hachinohe Medical Region, which is located on the other side of the prefecture and Kuji Medical Region. The Kuji Regional Union Fire Department, Hachinohe City medical institutions, medical institutions in the surrounding medical districts of Morioka, Miyako, and Ninohe, and the fire department agreed to transport patients of acute neurological diseases. In April of the same year, the Kuji medical region began providing medical care for neurological diseases through its transport system, which has been completely renewed. Although the transport system is currently functioning, many elderly patients are concerned about medical treatment in the Hachinohe medical region. We consider our hospital to have an important role in treating patients in the subacute stage and beyond.
