JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThe following study indicates the rudimentary approach to Duan Yu-cais'assumption of xiesheng characters, gu-xiesheng-shuo. In this paper, the author examines relatiens between rimes of Shijing and xiesheng characters in the 15th Archaic rime category assumed by Duan Yu-cai (abbr. the 15th rime category), in order to find the clue to consider the duplication the xiesheng characters between the Ji Archaic rime category and the Zhi Archaic rime category which is pointed out in Rai (1983).
The main procedure of this study is following:
a. dividing the rusheng rimes of the 15th rime category into two, i. e. the Ji Archaic rime category and the Zhi Archaic rime category.
b. judging the xiesheng characters from the rimes of the 15th rime category, according to Shuowen-Jiezi-Yinyun-Biao edited by Jiang Yuan who was one of the Duan's pupils.
Through this study, it is concluded that the concept of chusheng is the clue to consider the xiesheng characters of the Ji Archaic rime category.View full abstractDownload PDF (1553K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThe rime dictionary “Qieyun (_??_) ”, compiled in 601 by Lu Fayan (_??_), was very often revised and enlarged during the Tang (_??_) and Song (_??_) dynasties. Only two of those editions, however, are still extant with a whole skin: “Kanmiu-buque-qieyun (_??_) ” by Wang Renxu (_??_) and “Dasong-chongxiu-guangyun (_??_) ”by Chen Pengnian (_??_). But in addition to them, fortunately, dozens of fragmentary manuscripts and block-prints mainly from Dunhuang (_??_) are well preserved in the libraries in London, Paris and other cities. So, there have been several attempts to identify and classify those fragments. And “Setsuin-zankan-shehon-hosei (_??_) ” by Tadashi Ueda (_??_) is one of the most valuable studies in the field.
The aim of this paper is to sort the fragments according to the usages of the elliptical mark “_??_” and to collate it with the classification T. Ueda has made.View full abstractDownload PDF (1104K) -
