Mixed oxide catalyst V-P-O for the butane oxidation to maleic anhydride was significantly promoted by the addition of some metal cations. 2. For two types the conductivity of the LB film changed reversibly with photoisomerization of azobenzene. The third type showed phenomena which are compared to the learning process.

Irradiation of 3-nitro-α- and β-
D-
erythro-hex-2-enopyranoside derivatives in methanol, ethanol, and isopropanol with high pressure Hg lamp gave the adducts in moderate yields. The stereoselectivities calculated by AM1 calculation by the use of model compounds with 1,3-dioxolan-2-yl radical are not conflict with those observed in similar photoreaction in 1,3-dioxolane as well as the present results.

Various α,β-unsaturated amides derived from α-amino acids are converted to the corresponding 2-hydroxyimino amides of α-amino acids by the reaction with butyl nitrite and silane, which are directly reduced with samarium diiodide to the optically active dipeptides in good yields under mild conditions with high chemo- and stereoselectivities.
