Absorption microspectroscopy has been conducted to study chemical properties of single melamine-resin microcapsules containing a zinc tetraphenylporphine (ZnTPP)/toluene solution. Although absorbance of ZnTPP in the capsule increased with increasing the capsule diameter, its tendency was much smaller than that expected from a homogeneous distribution of ZnTPP in the inner toluene solution. The results were discussed in terms of a distribution of ZnTPP in both the melamine-resin and toluene phases.

Replacement of an alkyne moiety of zirconacyclopentadienes via β,β′-carbon-carbon bond cleavage was highly dependent on their substituents. Complete differentiation between diphenylacetylene and 4-octyne in the reaction with butyronitrile was demonstrated.

An azobenzene-functionalized meterial was used to perform comparative investigation of molecular arrangements in self-assembled monolayer film and in crystalline state. By the means of atomic force microscopy and absorption spectroscopy, a unique herringbone structure was revealed in the densely packed self-assembled monolayer film.

A series of 2,3-bis(siloxy)-1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)butanes SILOPs, possessing various siloxy groups, and their Rh(I) complexes have been prepared. The X-ray structure of a SILOP shows a staggered conformation with two siloxy groups in the anti positions. The X-ray crystal structure of a cationic Rh(I)-SILOP complex, however, shows an
anti arrangement of not the two siloxy groups but the two silyl groups with respect to the O–O axis, which reinforces the
C2-symmetrical environment around the metal center.

A carbon electrode modified with immobilized cells of
Paracoccus denitrificans has been found to produce catalytic currents for the reduction of nitrate and nitrite in the presence of durohydroquinone. It has been shown that durohydroquinone functions as an electron transfer mediator between the electrode and the bacterial cells to drive electrochemically the denitrifying reaction of
Paracoccus denitrificans.
