Magnetic phase transition was observed as 24 K and 27 K under 0.5 T of magnetic field along a- and b-axes, and c-axis, respectively. Either temperature was higher than that (18 K) of powder sample reported previously.

Amphiphilic prophyrins having a poly(ethylene oxide) chain were prepared. The transfer rates of the amphiphilic porphyrin from benzene to water were biphasic and were accelerated by lowering temperature or by the addition of SDS. Kinetic data suggest that (1) conformational changes of the amphiphilic prophyrin to a polar form give rise to the faster rate at low temperature, and (2) adsorption to the interface leads to the biphasic kinetics.

In order to investigate the magnetic field effects on chemical feedback systems, the oscillation behavior of the anodic currents of a zinc electrode was studied in an 8 mol dm
−3 NaOH aqueous solution under magnetic fields using a liquid-helium-free large-bore superconducting magnet.

The first enantiomerically pure planar-chiral cyclopentadienyl-ruthenium complexes, [Cp
nRu(benzene)]PF
6, were synthesized (Cp
nH; unsymmetricaly trisubstituted cyclopentadiene), and by a photo reaction with CH
3CN converted to [Cp
nRu(CH
3CN)
3]PF
6, which was transformed into planar-chiral [Cp
nRu(arene)]PF
6 by a ligand exchange reaction.

Dichroism of photoluminescence PL of linear poly(2,3-di-
p-tolylquinoxaline-5,8-diyl) indicates that the PL has a transition moment along the direction of the polymer main chain and an energy transfer takes place in the polymer. Poly(phenanthroline-3,8-diyl) and poly(pyridine-2,5-diyl) give analogous results and show a strong tendency to give excimer-type emission in both PL and electroluminescence.
