The changes in the apparent specific volume and apparent specific adiabatic compressibility associated with thermal and chemical denaturations were studied for hen egg white lysozyme solution. No transition was found in the temperature dependence of the apparent quantities, whereas the addition of a certain amount of guanidine hydrochloride seems to decrease slightly the volume and compressibility.

Pd/Ni bimetallic clusters have been successfully prepared for the first time by a polyol reduction method, in which a mixed solution of Pd and Ni salts were reduced at high temperature by ethylene glycol. The bimetallic clusters are proved by TEM, XRD and preliminary EXAFS analysis to have an alloy structure. The bimetallic clusters show much higher catalytic activity for hydrogenation of nitrobenzene to aniline under mild conditions than the monometallic Pd or Ni clusters.

4 (TPPA = tris[(6-(pivaloylamino)-2-pyridyl)methyl]amine), has been obtained from the [Cu
II(tppa)(O
2−)]ClO
4 complex in a methanol solution and characterized by the electronic absorption, ESR and ESI-MAS spectra and the X-ray diffraction method.

The surface structure of Co-Mo/Al
2O
3 sulfided
in-situ at high pressure( ≤ 5 MPa) was characterized by FT-IR/DRA method using NO as a probe molecule. The ratio of the band intensity of NO adsorbed on Co site to that of Mo site increased, when Co-Mo/Al
2O
3 was sulfided at the pressure above 1.1 MPa. Combining the results with those found on catalysts varying the Co/Mo molar ratio, it was suggested that Co site is more effectively dispersed on Mo site by higher pressure sulfiding.

2-Aminophenol readily undergoes highly selective Co(salen) catalyzed oxygenation in methanol at room temperature resulting unexpectedly in the quantitative formation of 2-Aminophenoxazin-3-one. The oxygenation of substituted 2-aminophenols provides useful information to discuss the reaction path.
