Zeolite modified with octadecyl and diethylenetriamine groups (ZOD), which floats on surface of water, sinks into the water via the formation of metal–ligand complex, owing to the increase in hydrophilicity. The degree of the sinking depends on the metal ions coordinated, allowing selective recovery of ZOD particles loading high concentration of specific metal ion.

Morphology of a well-defined polyethylene-
b-poly(ethylene-
co-propylene) (PE-
b-EPR) on a mica surface was analyzed by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The analyses suggested that the block copolymer, in which the PE lamella is covered with the amorphous EPR segment, can exist without aggregation and possesses a tendency to assemble to one another to form a needle-like structure.

Photoformed hole and electron on TiO
2 adsrobing NH
3 are trapped, respectively, by a NH
3 species adsorbed on TiO
2 and Ti
4+ to evolve a NH
2 radical and a Ti
3+ species. The photoinduced electron transfer takes place between Ti
4+ and adsorbed NH
3 species efficiently, resulting in the formation of a NH
2 radical. The NH
2 radical on TiO
2 was stably present after the photoirradiation was ceased. It is quenched rapidly just after introduction of NO leaving the Ti
3+ species.

A convenient, inexpensive, and efficient synthesis of 3-phenylpropionic acids (
1a–
1f) by reacting benzaldehyde (
2a–
2f) and malonic acid in acetic acid and piperidine into cinnamic acid (
3a–
3f) in 77 to 89% followed by its reduction with PdCl
2 in the biphase of formic acid and aqueous sodium hydroxide is reported under microwave irradiation which utilizes short reaction time ranging 5 to 7 min to provide
1a–
1f in moderate to high yield (69–86%) depending upon methoxy, methylenedioxy, and hydroxy groups present at the phenyl ring.

Nanocrystalline boron phosphide (BP) has been prepared by the reaction of PCl
3 with NaBH
4 at 600 °C in an autoclave. The X-ray powder diffraction patterns can be indexed as cubic BP with the lattice constants of
a = 4.53 Å. The transmission electron microscopy (TEM) image shows particle morphology, with average size of 10 nm for the powders. The selected area electron diffraction (SAED) patterns confirm the prepared BP.

A new route involving double Claisen rearrangement of a suitable 1,4-diallyloxyarene system followed by ring-closing metathesis of the resulting diene has been developed for the synthesis of various benzannulated cyclohexenes. An important demonstration of this methodology is the construction of the tetracyclic quinophenolic ring system of the clinically important anthracyclines.
