Manganese oxide nanofibers with layered structure and γ-MnOOH structure have been prepared from a layered manganese oxide by using a self-assembling hydrothermal process. This process includes preparation of manganese oxide nanosheets by exfoliating the layered manganese oxide, self-assembling the nanosheets with a cationic surfactant into a nanocomposite, and transforming the nanocomposite into the nanofibers under hydrothermal conditions.

We achieved capillary electrophoresis with chemiluminescence detector using on-capillary detection, taking advantage of the commercially available chemiluminescence reagent (LUMICA) and its oxidant. A mixture of dansyl tryptophan and dansyl glycine as a model sample migrated in two different running buffers, both containing LUMICA and the oxidant, indicating chemiluminescence was generated by the reaction of LUMICA, the oxidant, and dansyl α-amino acids. When the α-amino acids went through the detection window on the capillary, the chemiluminescence signals were observed with the chemiluminescence detector using on-capillary detection. This new concept of on-capillary chemiluminescence detection did not require any interface device between the electrophoresis capillary and the chemiluminescence detector.

Monodispersed silicalite nanocrystals with a diameter of 80–150 nm were successfully prepared in water–surfactant–oil solution. It was found that the ionicity of the surfactants used in preparation affected the crystallinity and structure of the silicalite, and that silicalite nanocrystals could be obtained when using a nonionic surfactant. Furthermore, silicalite nanocrystals with a diameter of approximately 80 nm could be obtained in even a high concentration region of Si source.

When an electron acceptor, [2-[2-[4-(dimethylamino)phenyl]ethenyl]-6-methyl-4H-pyran-4-ylidene]propanedinitrile (DCM) was blended into poly[2-methoxy-5-(2′-ethylenehexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] (MEH-PPV) in a TiO
2/MEH-PPV/Au sandwich-type solar cell, the cell performance was remarkably enhanced, resulting in 0.47% of energy conversion yield under the irradiation of AM 1.5–100 mW/cm

SnS nanorods and nanoparticles were synthesized by thiourea hydrolysis in an autoclave at 180 °C within a time window of 2 and 8 h, respectively. In the absence of added structure-directing agent, the nanorods formation was attributed to templating characteristic of ammonium ion produced in situ during hydrolysis.

Zeolite SUZ-4 is found to be a very selective and stable catalyst for producing dimethyl ether in methanol dehydration because the formed dimethyl ether is hardly converted to hydrocarbons, different from ZSM-5 zeolite.
