In this process, the nanocarbon products were formed from carbon atoms supplied by the sucrose in solution rather than from the graphite of the electrodes. One of the advantages of this method is that the nanomaterials are produced in agglomerated forms, and there are no generated toxic gases during arcing process.

Single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) immobilization in a highly oriented manner with controlled ssDNA density on a gold surface was accomplished by surface modification with our original poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)-

As the length of the polyamine segment in the block copolymer increased, the immobilization amount of ssDNA-SH on the gold surface increased. The constructed surface improved the signal of the hybridization of ssDNA-SH with its target ssDNA, as found by surface plasmon resonance (SPR) measurements.

The results indicate that the multifunctional PS microbeads (MFMs) can be dispersed in water stably and are well suitable for target encoding, capturing, and enrichment.

2H- and
13C-labelling studies on skeletal reorganization of 1,6-enynes having a terminal alkyne moiety have been performed with various catalysts. The products are 1-vinylcyclopentenes, but two possible isomers, type
I and
II products, can be formed. The formation of type
I involves the cleavage of the original C–C double bonds and migration of the terminal alkene carbon atom to the terminus of the alkyne. On the other hand, the formation of type
II involves a double cleavage of the C–C double bond and the C–C triple bond, which is an anomalous bond connection. The product ratio is affected by the nature of the catalyst used. Type
II is obtained as a major isomer in the case of late transition metal halides. On the other hand, the type
I product forms exclusively in the presence of a typical element halide, such as InCl
3.

The intrinsic proton affinities of individual basic sites, so-called micro acid dissociation constants, of purine nucleobases in aqueous solution are calculated using an ab initio quantum-mechanical method in combination with the Poisson–Boltzmann continuum solvation model. Calculated micro acid dissociation constants as well as macro acid dissociation constants (p
Ka) agree with recent experimental measurements mostly within a pH unit.

A novel hexagonal fluorinated aluminophosphate molecular sieve has been prepared ionothermally using 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide as solvent and template provider in the presence of HF. The resulting fluorinated aluminophosphate molecular sieve is hexagonal nanoflakes with a thickness of about 170 nm and has the single-crystal property. Further comparative experiments show that fluoride ions have a strong effect on the morphology and framework of the samples.

Benzyl acetates undergo smooth deoxygenative allylation with allyltrimethylsilane in the presence of 10 mol % of molecular iodine under mild conditions to afford the corresponding allyl derivatives in excellent yields and with high selectivity. Cinnamyl alcohols also react readily with allylsilane under similar conditions. The use of molecular iodine makes this method quite simple, more convenient and cost effective.

A facile and novel method has been developed for synthesizing nanoporous Mn
2O
3 materials with polyhedron morphology, high surface area, and narrow pore distribution by controlled thermal decomposition of the oxalate salt precursor. This method can be extended to the preparation of other kinds of nanoporous oxides.

Oligomerization of isobutene has been investigated using FeCl
3-modified HY zeolite catalysts in order to produce triisobutenes or remove/separate isobutene from C
4 streams. Stable isobutene conversion and high selectivity for trimers are attained over the modified zeolite with high concentration of Lewis acid sites, suggesting that a potential trimerization catalyst can be obtained easily by loading a Lewis acid into an acidic zeolite catalyst.
