A novel nongrafting route has been developed to anchor Au nanoparticles (NPs) onto titanium oxide rods. These rods have been synthesized through a process involving a glycolate precursor. A facile solid-state transformation allows anatase and rutile phases to be formed
without the overall rod-like morphology being altered. Importantly, the sizes of the rods can be controlled through varying reflux time and temperature only, and hence the procedure does not necessitate the use of additives. These rods have then been used as supports to deposit Au NPs through a simple method that relies on hydrophobic interactions.

Snowball-like nanoflowers of Ni have been synthesized directed by negatively-charged micelles. Positively-charged or neutral micelles can not evolve such structure. Initially, negatively-charged micelles incorporate the positively-charged Ni-ion onto its head group by electrostatic attraction and again further attraction of surfactant on the Ni
+2 form a layer by layer structure and in a repetitive fashion the surfactant and positively-charged Ni salts form flower-like structure. By the reduction of Ni salts the Ni nanoflowers are formed. The sizes of nanoflowers are ca. 30 nm. The particles are superparamagnetic.

Further, sol–gel transition of the hydrogel was able to be controlled reversibly by pH. Small-angle X-ray scattering and FT-IR measurements showed that the main interaction of the aggregate formation was hydrogen bonding between the amide groups and that the aggregates had lamellar structures in both the organogel and the hydrogel.

3, DMF as solvent). The polymer has good solubility in common organic solvents, such as THF and DMF. Both thermostability and electrostability of the block polymer are enhanced, compared to aniline trimer. Moreover, the polymer’s sensitivity to pH value is superior to the stand-alone aniline trimer. The enhancement of both stability and sensitivity may give the block polymer more opportunities to be used as sensor material.

In this paper, we report an easy and highly efficient methodology for the synthesis of novel binaphthyl-based chiral monophosphites with
C3-symmetry. The preparation of the respective platinum complexes and their characterization by suitable in situ NMR spectroscopic studies confirmed the noteworthy hemilabile potential of the new phosphite ligands.

Photocatalytic oxidation of
p-chlorophenol and toluene under gas–liquid–solid multiphase flow conditions was investigated by using a photocatalytic microreaction system. By loading both gaseous and liquid samples simultaneously into a microchannel with a photocatalytic titanium dioxide thin layer therein, a gas–liquid–solid multiphase annular flow was generated. The reaction yield was greatly enhanced with decreasing thickness of liquid layer because of improved efficiency of interaction and mass transfer between different phases.

We have developed a detector-free and multiple detection method for various analytes using some orthogonal pairs of cleavase-aptazymes and the corresponding probe-DNA-tethered gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) for each analyte. In this method, each cleavase-aptazyme cleaves itself only in the presence of its cofactor (i.e. analyte), and each resulting cleaved RNA hybridizes only to the corresponding probe DNA on AuNPs to induce AuNP aggregation that can be detected with the naked eye.

Bioethanol is made by the fermentation of biomass and different from petroleum-derived ethanol. The Korean government started a two year long feasibility study of using bioethanol mixed with sub-octane gasoline as transportation fuel in 2006. The development of analysis methods for bioethanol is an urgent issue to protect illegal circulation of synthetic ethanol in the transportation fuel market. In this letter, a new approach was introduced to analyze bioethanol and synthetic ethanol within a mixture of sub-octane gasoline and synthetic ethanol using low level liquid scintillation counting (LSC).

A new homologous series of asymmetric bent-shaped molecules with two different side wings composed of Schiff base and ester linkage moieties were synthesized. The effects of asymmetric shape on the liquid crystalline properties were investigated and discussed in comparison with the conventional symmetric bent-shaped molecules.

In this paper, we have successfully prepared submicron-sized snowman-like polystyrene (PS) particles by radiation-induced seeded emulsion polymerization at room temperature. The monodispersed crosslinked PS particles with an average size of 358 nm acted as seed particles. The influence of polymer/monomer weight ratio on the morphology was studied. The results showed that snowman-like PS particles could be fabricated in high yield about 90% when the polymer/monomer weight ratio was 0.2:1.

Neutral donors and hyperbranched polymer with many viologen groups formed charge-transfer complexes in solutions and solid films. The charge-transfer absorption and fluorescence spectra showed red shifts with increasing donor fractions only in the case of polymer solid films, strongly suggesting solvatochromism in solid films and formation of multichromophore CT complex. These are unique microenvironmental effects of the present cationic polymer.
