JOURNAL FREE ACCESSCondensation of 7-benzoyldaidzein (III) with 2-methyl-3-buten-2-ol gave 7-benzoyl-3′-(3-methyl-2-butenyl)daidzein (IV). Hydrolysis of IV with dilute alkali gave 3′-(3-methyl-2-butenyl)daidzein (neobavaisoflavone) (I), which was converted into isoneobavaisoflavone (VI) when heated with formic acid. 7-Benzyldaidzein (VII) was condensed with 2-methyl-3-buten-2-ol to give a chroman derivative (VIII), which was converted into VI by hydrogenolysis.View full abstract -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSS-Dodecyl, S-decyl, and S-octyl esters of β-alanine were reacted in water in the presence of a base at 100°C for 40 hours to give poly-β-alanine. The yields and the degrees of polycondensation for dodecyl, decyl, and octyl esters were 44, 24, and 2 % and 13, 12, and 20, respectively. Poly-β-alanine was not obtained from S-hexyl and S-ethyl esters. The specific acceleration of polycondensation reaction for the higher alkyl esters was explained by micellar effect.View full abstract -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSCysteine was bound to the dextran polymer. The dextran-bound cysteine formed with Mo5+ a binuclear complex, which had a similar structure to free Mo-Cys complex. The dextran-bound Mo(V)-Cys complex exhibited a much higher catalytic activity for the reduction of acetylene with NaBH4 compared with the free Mo-Cys complex.View full abstract -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESS1-Acyl-2-alkyl-6-hydroxyfulvenes have been found to rearrange to 1-acyl-3-alkyl-6-hydroxyfulvenes on heating. Kinetics and other mechanistic studies including 13C-labeling experiment indicate that the acyl group migrates intramolecularly. The acyl migration may proceed by two consecutive [1,5] acyl shifts via a 5,5-diacylcyclopentadiene toward the less crowded 3-alkyl isomer.View full abstract -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSN-o-Nitrophenylsulfenylalanylalanine amides(DL-DL, L-DL, and L-L) were dehydrated In POCl3-pyridine without affecting their N-protecting groups. The N-protected dipeptide nitriles obtained were treated with anhydrous HCl in ethyl acetate to give the hydrochlorides of the corresponding dipeptide nitriles. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSBased on the observation that the juice of yoremoku induces the settling of swimming larvae of Coryne Uchidai, we searched the active component in the alga by means of bioassay using the swimming larvae and elucidated the structure of the active principle to be 1 and 2. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSTris(3-hydroxy-2-methyl-4-pyronato)complexes of chromium(III), manganese(III) and iron (III) have been prepared. Comparison of their IR spectra suggests that a Jahn–Teller distortion is operative in the Mn(III) complex. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThe distribution of symmetric Mn–Cl stretching frequencies in molten MnCl2–KCl system was studied by laser-Raman spectroscopy. The stretching frequency was 208 cm−1 in pure MnCl2 and 245 ∼ 251 cm−1 in KCl-rich compositions. The full width at half-height of Raman band increased with increasing MnCl2 concentration from 38 cm−1 (MnCl2 : KCl = 1 : 4) to 110 cm−1 (pure MnCl2).View full abstract -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThe reactivities of substituted allyl chlorides have been studied in the alkylation reaction catalyzed by WCl6. The primary products were allyl benzenes, however, they suffered consecutive hydrochlorination to the extent, which depended on their structure. The reactivity order of the allyl chlorides was trans-CH3CH=CHCH2Cl>CH2=CHCH2Cl> trans-ClCH=CHCH2Cl>cis-ClCH=CHCH2Cl. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThe hydrolyses of 4-nitrophenyl and 2,4-dinitrophenyl sulfates have been accelerated in the presence of a functional detergent such as N,N-dimethylhexadecylamine or N,N-dimethyl-N-hexadecyl-N-(4-imidazolium)methylammonium dichloride even at concentrations below cmc, as well as in the presence of cycloheptaamylose (β-CD). Nevertheless, the presence of both β-CD and functional detergent resulted in the diminished rate of hydrolysis of the esters relative to the individual catalysis. Through NMR study on the inclusion behavior of the detergent into the β-CD cavity, the inhibiting effect of β-CD in the hydrolysis of aryl sulfates catalyzed by the functional detergents was ascribed to the competitive inclusion of the substrate and detergent molecules into β-CD.View full abstract -

Exceptional properties were observed for the Cu(II) complex on IR and MS measurements. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSTwo charge transfer absorption bands at 485 nm and 620 nm were observed in the system of poly-γ-(β-N-carbazolylethyl)-D-glutamate-tetranitrofluorenone dissolved in ethylene dichloride. Thermodynamic analysis and circular dichroism measurements revealed that ordering of the side chain carbazolyl chromophore occurred resulting in reordering of the α-helix main chain which had been disturbed by steric hindrance between the side chains.View full abstract
