    Self-assembly of liquid crystalline tetrakis(2-ethylhexyl) perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylate (C8PTC) in periodically aligned Au nanofin arrays (Au-NFs) is investigated. C8PTC forms columnar hexagonal liquid crystalline assemblies oriented parallel to the glass substrate, while the in-plane orientation of the long columnar axis is perpendicular to the surface of Au-NFs. This unique alignment reflects the interaction between the aromatic π-surface and the bare gold surface of NFs. This work provides a new perspective to design and control molecular self-assembly confined in the designed surface nanopatterns.

    Paper-based electronics have obtained increasing attention as they offer benefits of light weight, flexibility, and low cost. In this work, heat-resistant borosilicate glass paper, showing extraordinary flexibility and being able to be treated at high temperature (ca. 500 °C), is used as the substrate for flexible dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) for the first time. High-quality photoanodes were prepared via a novel sequent filling method with the aid of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and ice layers, leading to smooth and continuous TiO2 film. A completely different device structure compared to the conventional design was also brought about, by taking advantage of using this photoanode as solid-state electrolyte supporter and being further connected with the counter-electrode. The prototype solar cell was successfully demonstrated for the first time, with a decent initiating photovoltaic performance, resulting in an efficiency of 0.85% (open-circuit voltage, Voc = 0.67 V; short-circuit current density, Jsc = 3.76 mA cm−2; fill factor, FF = 0.34). This work provides a new prospective for fabricating flexible DSSCs, which successfully resolved the long-term stability issues due to the incompatibility of high temperature sintering and front-side illumination existing in polymer and metal foils respectively. This extraordinary paper also shows potential for wide application as flexible substrate in other types of photovoltaics such as perovskite solar cells, which are currently being intensely investigated.

    Intracellular delivery is crucial not only in achieving effective oligonucleotide therapeutics but also for a wide variety of therapeutic strategies. In this study to elucidate the effects of the number of incorporated arginine residues on cell membrane permeability, we designed a series of peptide ribonucleic acids (PRNAs) that alternatingly incorporated 4, 8, or 12 arginine residues (PRR1-3) in the PRNA backbone for experimental verifications. Indeed, the cellular uptake efficiency and the aggregation properties turned out to be critical functions of the number of incorporated arginine residues. Thus, the optimized PRR2 that incorporates 8 arginines showed the most efficient cellular uptake ability, much higher than that of octaarginine, without accompanying cytotoxicity or aggregation.

    The regioselective silylation of the α-C(sp3)–H bond in the 2-alkyl group in 2-alkyl-1,3-azole derivatives with hydrosilanes, catalyzed by the combination of (POCOPtBu)IrHCl and NaBArF4, leading to the production of 2-(1-silylalkyl)-1,3-azoles is described. The presence of 3,5-dimethylpyridine is required for the reaction to procced. Although the reaction takes place both in the presence and absence of a hydrogen acceptor, the addition of an acceptor gave better results, in terms of the efficiency of the reaction.

    We found that 2-chloropyridine selectively precipitates Pd(II) over Pt(IV) in a HCl solution. The Pd(II) precipitated with a [ligand]/[Pd(II)] ratio of 1.9. Comparison of the Fourier transform infrared spectra of 2-chloropyridine and its Pd complex suggests that the ligand coordinated to the metal via the nitrogen atom on the pyridine ring.
