The demand for concrete structure used in coastal and offshore have stepped up and the performance of concrete properties in these environment becomes one of the most important problems to grasp recently. This paper describes the existing state of frost and salt damage of concrete structures in coastal and cold climate and the atmospheric conditions to raise the damages. Also, it is stated that a brief state of arts and new attempts to ensure the resistances of frost damage and corrosion and the importance of the properties of surface layer to maintain the durability of concrete and etc..
This report describes technical appraisal of concrete foundation when continuous casting plant was replaced after 16 years operation. The operating company desired to reuse the concrete foundations if possible to minimize expense for the replacement and the stoppage of steel production. Since the concrete was exposed to high working temperature and vibration for many years, its condition was carefully examined. Pulling test of anchoring bolts, soundness of non-shrinkage mortar and epoxy resin mortar were also checked. The foundation was good enough to be reused and the work was remarkably expedited.
