    As result of satisfying the requirements related to the efficiency of construction and economics in addition to structural safety, composite and mixed structures including SRC structures have been widely used in Japan. This report introduces trends of research activities of composite and mixed structures in Japan since 1980 as well as reviews of structural standards and the state of art report published by AIJ, JSCE, JSSC and JCI. Further research needs are also suggested.

    Ministry of construction promoted project entitled “Development of Advanced Reinforced Concrete Building Using High Strength Concrete and Reinforcement (New RC)”. This study was performed by constructing full scale experiments consist of column, wall, beam, and slab (1 span x 1 span x 2 floor) in order to establish the guideline for fieldwork using high strength concrete of Fc=600 kgf/cm2 class. As point of study, quality of fresh concrete, efficiency of placing and consolidation, finishability, and condition of hardening concrete were examined and each consideration points were put in order.     In the Kushikino underground petroleum storage base, the largest underground rock caverns sealed by ground water have been under construction. Shotcrete is regarded as a permanent support in these petroleum storage facilities. A continuous setting method of durable and light GFRP grids, which are applied to the reinforcement for shotcrete in place of welded wire fabrics, with quenched staples using compressed air has newly been developed. This paper describes the reduction of extra shotcrete and the improvement of work productivity in the test construction at the temporary tunnel, and then the outline of the shotcrete work with GFRP grids at the rock caverns.

    The highly versatile Prefabricated frame method, supposedly used for low- and medium-rise reinforced-concrete buildings, was developed. This method is characterized by such aspects that the beams are thin U-shaped precast members in which the bottom longitudinal reinforcements and the stirrups are embedded, and the longitudinal reinforcements are joined by lap joints. Advantages of this method are ; the members are light and thus it requires only a slight crane to execute, and relatively simple bar arrangements enables prefabrication in two directions. In this paper, as we got two actual buildings to apply the construction method, the outline of the method and the results of the construction are reported. From the results, it can be concluded that reduction of both the time for completion and the amount of work have been confirmed in those two construction cases. And the costs of construction were approximately equivalent to those in conventional methods
