With the increase of existing buildings in Japan, the demand for building diagnosis has been increasing for the last decade. In the past it has been common to take action after problems already exist, however, now there is great anticipation for the building diagnosis to serve as preventive maintenance or facility management. In this paper, the structural diagnosis techniques for the most general reinforced concrete building are summarized on the examination items, process and points. As an example for diagnosis techniques, the field examination for reinforced concrete members and floor slab is described. The methods of durability and aseismatic diagnosis are outlined, and also the practical examples for aseismatic diagnosis utilizing the vibration test and recent non-destructive testing apparatus are presented.
