Radiation shielding concrete which retains little residual radioactivity, that is, “low-activation concrete”, has been recently used as shielding materials of accelerator facilities. This paper describes the theory and history of low-activation concrete and introduces the applied examples in order to promote better understanding regarding low-activation concrete.

Recent years, the examples that steel-bars in concrete pier and footing structures were breaking down by Alkali-silica Reaction (ASR) were reported. The mechanism that cause the breaking down of steel-bars is not mode clear. Also, there is a possibility that the load capacity of bridges may fall by remarkable ASR damage. Therefore, it is important that knowledge of the mechanism of breaking down of steel-bars and decrement of the load capacity of RC structures affected by ASR. This paper outlines the condition of road bridges damaged by ASR and basic policy of the maintenance works.

“Hannam-dong Juvenile Education Culture Center” is symbolical structure that is designed as Black Color ex-posed concrete. We have done a lot of lab tests, semi mock-up test and full-scale mock-up test in order to make a best quality of this structure. Especially we use the inorganic black pigment and carbon black to express the perfect black color. In this report, it is summarized of test results that have done to make best quality of black concrete production and construction. Furthermore this report offers basic materials that are helpful to accomplish the similar design mix and construction of color exposed concrete.

Steel pipe-concrete composite pier, in recent years have been adopted many construction sites of expressways and so on, has been developed for improvement of rapid construction and seismic resistance suitable for the tall bridge pier. It is easy to be cracked by influence of thermal stress accompanying the casting its concrete due to the feature of the structure. So, we carried out the inquiry about some construction sites and made simulation of actual change of temperature by the three dimension thermal analysis. And we executed thermal stress analysis for making clear the mechanism of cracking and some case mainly concerning construction, using the thermal values of materials gained by the simulation. According to the results, we suggested some efficient measurements for control of cracks.

Cementitious grouts for post-tensioned structures usually posses either high or low viscosity. Grouting of low viscosity types lead the flow rapidly in the downward duct and resulting the poor filling in the case of long waved ducts which used on long PC bridges. On the other hand, grouts with high viscosity do not flow rapidly, but increase the grouting pressure and filling up of the whole duct at once is impossible. Use of such grout is inefficient as they need to be injected step by step. In order to solve these problems, a new grout with high thixotropy was developed which possesses high filling ability at low grouting pressure. In this paper, properties and results from the mock up test of the new grout was reported.
