The Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) of Ready-mixed Concrete was lately revised, in accordance with Article 15 of the Industrial Standardization Law of Japan, after a lapse of five years from the preceding revision. The gist of the revision is to make the JIS take account of environmental effects of the concrete as well as to promote the information disclosure at purchasers' point of view. In other words, it is the purpose of the present revision to prepare an industrial standard of the ready-mixed concrete that takes account of utilization of recycled concrete aggregate for class-H concrete, promotion of standardization of the ready-mixed concrete with consideration to the environment by utilization of recycled aggregate for concrete-class H, promotion of use of sludge water, and expansion of the scope of applications of the adhesion mortar. In addition, it was stipulated to disclose formulations of the concrete as an item to be entered in the concrete delivery statement and also to deliver weighing records and average weight of the concrete loaded on trucks if requested by purchasers of the concrete after delivery of the concrete.

The Working Group on Durability Mechanics (WG 3) within the Japan Concrete Institute (JCI) Technical Committee on Time Dependent Behavior of Cement-Based Materials (JCI-TC 061 A) re-defined “Durability Mechanics” which is originally proposed by Coussy and Ulm in 2001, aiming the systematization of durability of concrete and concrete structures from the point of view of coupling of many kinds of deteriorating phenomena. Additionally, based on this definition, existing researches are exemplified in the system of “Durability Mechanics” and typical researches of Durability Mechanics are introduced. Accordingly, the importance and the orientation of systematization of “Durability Mechanics” is pointed out.

This paper deals with development of rapid drying shrinkage evaluation system which consists of drying shrinkage testing method which enables us to save testing labor, and prediction of drying shrinkage strain of concrete from short-term test. This proposing method was applied to ready-mixed concretes on many construction sites, and robustness and reliability of the method were demonstrated.
