A place where people are interacting each other is said to be the good place in public space. The purpose of this study is to find the effect of installing street furniture in public space on the interaction of the people. We conducted a social experiment by installing some sets of table and chair in the fountain square in Amagasaki Central Park and observed behaviors of people in there. The sets of table and chair were set in two ways, one is along the fountain, the other is in one place. This experiment was found that people sitting on the installed chairs have a higher ratio of “eating/drinking”, “talking with their family or friends” and “seeing strangers” than people sitting on the fountain. In addition, behaviors of people talking with strangers are observed when the sets were set in one place. Therefore, the installation of street furniture in public space may stimulate the interaction of the people.

Today's old urban areas were built in the mid-1950s, during the period of high economic growth. The farmlands were converted to houses, and large numbers of wooden rental houses were built haphazardly as commuter towns. As a result, many old wooden rental houses facing narrow streets were built in the urban areas. For this reason, the land readjustment projects are undertaken for reforming such old urban areas to strong urban areas by improving the public facilities and changing the shape of the area. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between changes in the road width and roadside values conducted by land readjustment projects, and to measure the effects of roadside values of residential areas.

Bicycles have become a popular mode of transportation for sightseeing in Kyoto, but leaving bicycles unattended for short periods of time around sightseeing spots remains an issue. In this study, in order to contribute to such problems, we first analyzed the GPS log data of rental bicycle users to identify stray and illegal bicycle-parking behaviors near sightseeing spots. We found out that the issues of stray and illegal bicycle-parking behaviors near sightseeing spots are caused by several issues, such as distances between sightseeing spots and parking lots and the quantity and quality of information on the bicycle parking lots. Then, bicycle parking lots were categorized by three types in terms of geographical feature and information provided to bicycle users. Lastly, we examined solutions by types of bicycle parking lots to decrease stray behavior and illegal bicycle-parking behaviors near sightseeing spots.
