  • ―郷土教育の視点から―

    This paper intends to reveal the situations of Japanese language arts practices in Manchukuo. The elaborate examination clarifies the following points: (1) Japanese language arts practices in Manchukuo were influenced by the "local education (kyodo-kyoiku) theory" developed in the mainland, Japan. (2) The learning contents were designed, based on the Manchurian mode of life and the local education committee aiming to extract and re-edit the contents from the teaching materials available: such as national textbooks, Manchuria supplementary readers, and other supplementary readers including "local readers." These Manchurian efforts were similar to the ones seen in postwar Japanese language arts practices in Japan.

    This paper attempts to identify the process used to support the return of students to school using the model case of the Taiwanese government in Taiwan. First of all, the concept of "guidance teachers" was explored, as well as the case studies for the process used by the guidance teachers to support the students in their return to school. The analysis showed that the process was divided into two levels depending on circumstances, to establish education at schools itself. It appears that guidance teachers utilize their externality within the schools, and conduct their support across a broad jurisdiction both within and outside schools.

    Finally, to sightsee potential issues, I examined the role of the guidance teacher with regards to the support of returning students. I looked at the guidance system and the broad jurisdiction of the guidance teacher, both within and outside the schools, and how these could affect their relationships with school social workers.

    This paper aims to analyze how troubles among students are settled and to reveal the reality and difficulties when teachers handle students' issues from the viewpoint of ethnography in junior high school.

    Lately, teachers have been receiving fierce criticism for issues about "bullying"- they are constantly judged for the process they adopted to handle issues among students and the fact that they cannot eradicate the problem of "bullying". This paper tries to disclose the reality and difficulties directly by capturing narratives at which teachers and students listen and explain to each other when teachers approach to settle and define the issue as a "problem" and solve it.

    In the cases studied by this paper, the teacher and students uphold their thoughts as the only correct interpretation, so there is a mismatch between the two. Based on these cases, the author provided a diversity perspective to understand and interpret issues occurred in classrooms.

    Furthermore, this paper pointed out the difficulties for teachers in guiding students may come from the different explanations between the teachers and students in term of the "problem". Therefore, this paper asserts that it is necessary for teachers to handling the problems among students before the problems being upgraded to bullying.

    With the popularization of higher education, ‘San-Ben Universities', be acknowledged as private universities and independent colleges have been increased in China. Despite how many criticisms ‘San-Ben University' has been incurred, the increasing numbers of the universities show that its development is unstoppable. However, studies on ‘San-Ben University' merely paid attention to an analysis of policies and institutions, topics regarding students of ‘San-Ben University' have not to be researched properly yet. In Japan's case, surveys that focused on students and conducted at ‘Border-Free University' were pointed out that is significant for understating the changes that happened in higher educational institutions nowadays (Yamada 2009). This paper aims to explore the alternative aspects of Chinese students who study at ‘San-Ben University' through the survey on students' learning behaviors. Interestingly, different from the social stereotype that students of ‘San-Ben University' merely care about entertainments rather than studies, the results of this paper reveal that students of ‘San-Ben University' not only pay attention to the classes but also study by themselves out of the classes. Based on this finding, it may be deduced that ‘San-Ben University' in China has the tendency of "schooling".

  • ―男女を表す表現と男女の言語使用に着目して―

    This paper provides a summary of contrastive and individual studies conducted in Japanese and Chinese from two perspectives: gender expressions in language, and the usage of language by women and men and indicates the remaining issues. Three points were summarized. Firstly, it was indicated that both Japanese and Chinese women in their twenties tend to refuse another person indirectly as compared to men and the men tend to interrupt another person more than women. Secondly, roles assigned as male or as female are stereotyped in Japanese and Chinese dictionaries. However, depreciation of women outside the home was observed in Chinese dictionaries more than in Japanese. Thirdly, expressions with the prefix "woman" were seen more frequently than those with prefix "man" in Chinese newspaper articles than in Japanese. Based on these studies, this paper proposes research directions. Firstly, it is necessary to compare natural conversations of various ages, meanwhile, considering how gender affects their language usage. In addition to natural conversations, an examination of images of women and men described in media discourses is also required. Finally, analyzing changes in gender stereotypes in media form selected by choice and media forms unconsciously encountered from the audience's perspective is also required.

    This study is a proposal for learning content that promotes the formation of an intention to reflect based on the practices of the graduate school education programs. Graduate schools of education tend to develop "immediate power", but that should be avoided. In education, it is important to move back and forth between theory and practice, but this is not enough. We also need to incorporate our own pursuits. Reflection is a way to know yourself, keep yourself, and look to the "future". Reflection is very important for strengthening "acquired resilience factor", but that comes with difficulties, so graduate students seek support. The following three things can be considered for support: deepening one's learning about reflection, changing the contents of practice, and presentation of "external stimulus" to promote conflict. In the Graduate School of Education, we need to increase learning about reflection. This makes it easier to find problems and makes it easier to start reflecting on the self. We must devise a systematic learning process which promotes the formation of reflection intention as soon as possible.

    Based on an analysis and summary of recent research, its achievements and shortcomings regarding the production of speech by second language learners are examined. Because several factors influence the production of speech, it is necessary to analyze the overall situation of the production from various viewpoints. Until now, most publications on speech production have focused mainly on three issues: the content of language expression, language fluency, and the cognitive processes involved. Although the types of speech acts that have been studied are extensive, and the research has varied in approach, most studies have focused on the content of language expression. Besides, language fluency and cognitive processes received much less attention than the content of language expression. However, research on language fluency and cognitive processes is very useful for improving the efficiency of learners' knowledge processing abilities, which constitute an important aspect of learners' speech production. Finally, research trends on the production of speech by second language learners are discussed based on the analysis of the results and shortcomings of current research.

    Self-regulated learning strategies have been widely investigated in the field of educational psychology over a few decades. However, very few studies have attempted to clarify the characteristics of these strategies. Within the field of second language acquisition, it is necessary to investigate other factors which affect the use of these strategies in order to develop the effective language learning. This paper firstly aims to present a systematic review of previous studies, mainly focused on a taxonomy of self-regulated learning strategies used in both fields of educational psychology and second language acquisition. Next, it explores the factors such as motivation, satisfaction, and learning difficulty that is related to the learning continuity along with each phase in the cycle of self-regulated learning. By way of conclusion, the author suggests challenges and possibilities that allow language learners to successful learning achievement.
