    In recent years, many information and data related to transport systems are available, for example traffic counter, traffic detector and electronic toll collection system as road traffic data, smart card data and train/bus operation data for public transportation data, and map information and so on. However, there are also its limitations to use the data especially when the issue contains the needs of data use from several resources, because administrator of transport data is mostly recording at different organizations or transport companies. Therefore, these projects aim to show the possibility of integrating transport data collection system using cloud computing system to improve transport data collection. And this paper shows its applications of the integrated transportation data system for improvements of several transportation issues.

    Preliminary studies have been done in a framework of the “Symbolic Project of College of Science and Technology, Nihon University” on the new technologies potentially capable of improving energy conversion efficiency. New concepts for thermal engine, solar and nuclear energy utilization, and for their associated numerical simulation were proposed. Through the basic studies, their feasibility and impact on the future practice have been examined. The low-temperature combustion engine, HCCI (Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition) engine, Gasoline Sabathe-cycle engine, SOFC jet-engine are evaluated as the new engine concept. For the utilization of solar heat, chemical pumping and Rankine cycle based system are examined. A catalytic nuclear fusion concept are also evaluated. The highlights of these individual studies are presented. In addition to the diversity of the studies, synergy between combustion technology and plasma technology have been promoted. This brought a novel plasma-assisted HCCI engine concept and its potential are also introduced.

    Carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted from fossil fuel combustion is a major contributor to global warming, and this has triggered efforts aimed at reducing CO2 discharge. Silicon (Si) is positioned blow carbon (C) in the periodic table, and its properties are similar to those of C; however, silicon oxide or silica (SiO2) is considered as an important material in the concrete and optical fiber industries, unlike CO2. Therefore, should we say that CO2 is “a material we do not know how to use” rather than “an annoying material?” Thus, we propose a method for converting carbon dioxide into more useful alternatives.
