    Solution and precipitation characteristics of vanadium compound during isothermal heating and during some heat treatments such as isothermal transformation, continuous cooling transformation, tempering and so forth in carbon steel, Mn steel, Mn-Cr steel, Mn-Cr-Mo steel bearing 0.15% vanadium was investigated. Furthermore, the role of vanadium compound on the changes in mechanical properties and microstructure due to quenching followed by tempering was also investigated, and following results were obtained;
    1) Solid soluted vanadium precipitates during reheating, and the amount of precipitation makes maximum at 800°C. Vanadium compound solutes into matrix almost completely at 1100°C. The addition of about 1% of Mn, Cr, and Mo has no influence on above mentioned precipitation and solution characteristics of vanadium compound.
    2) Vanadium compound precipitates during isothermal transformation and continuous cooling transformation of austenite, and under the suitable condition of transformation, it has coherency with matrix and harden ferrite. In case of continuous cooling transformation, the most adequate cooling velocity to harden matrix has relation with hardenability, namely precipitation behavior of protectoid ferrite.
    3) The effect of vanadium on the hardenability is found at far from quenched end, where protectoid ferrite exists.
    4) The difference of strengthening mechanism between vanadium bearing steels and other steels subjected to high temperature tempering are found that the contribution of precipitation itself of vanadium is much more than that of retardation of recrystallization (and high dislocation dencity) due to precipitation of vanadium.

A study of the molding method is made for hardening of casting sand by micro wave keeping it filled in a pattern.
Some experiments were carried out to investigate the pattern material with satisfactory character of transmittance for microwave, moldability, hardenability of a mold, presence of casting defects etc.
As hardening material the phenolic resin was used because of it's favorable collapsibility in a mold and its quick hardening.
After the tests it was found that a pattern of fused silica ceramic was the best.
It is recognized that as the molding method of core mold for the mass production the above written method has such merits as improvement of efficiency in molding and finishing work, maintenance of dimensional accuracy, stabilization of quality etc.

Utilizing of ultrasonic method was studied for inspecting of surface defects on cold rolled steel strip.
When the ultrasonic wave is projected in the water against surface of steel strip keeping proper projecting angle, the total reflection occures on the surface.
But there occurs irregular reflection on parts where there are any defects or flaws and detecting of such defects is possible through receiving the reflection.
Specimens with artificial flaws were used for the test concerning the correlation between the shape of probe, projecting condition and flaws. Furthermore, the test was also made for defecting of some natural flaws.
All fine defects visually inspected could be detected and it was confirmed that the method was capable enough of practical use.

0.1%C-12% Chromium heat resisting steel is being appreciated as steel for steam turbine blade etc. The uniformity of structure, among characteristics requested for blade material, is one of the most important nature as well as mechanical properties and creep rupture.
Accordingly, micro segregation and Delta Ferrite are inclined to be one cause of fatigue rupture and materials having uniformed sorbite structure are requested.
The present study is, following the report chiefly written about nature of materials (inner nature, mechanical properties, creep rupture) in from the 1st to 6th report, concerning improvement of structure and investigated about the rise and fall of Delta Ferrite, a big point in manufacturing 0.1%C-12% Chromium heat resisting steel mainly the effects of soaking treatment.
As the results, it was found that uniform macrostructure with no segreagation and Delta Ferrite could be obtained under 1100-1200°C soaking, if was C 0.11-0.15% and Cr 11.5-12.0% and the growth of Delta Ferrite caused by temperature higher than 1200°C could be out by means of re-soaking of 1050-1200°C.
It is needless to mention that the above written fact follow exactly as per the phase diagram.

An investigation was made about a determination method of soluble aluminium, insoluble aluminium in steels and lead by atomic absorption analysis method.
Aluminium is resolved by hydrochlrie acid and hydrogenperoxide solution and after filtration being filtrated is diluted by water and the rest is diluted by water after being treated by potassium pyrosulfate.
Such a lead that lead containing is over 0.01% in steel is resolved by hydrochloric acid and nitric acid and is diluted after being treated by potassium acid.
And as for very small quantity with less 0.01% lead containing in steel it is determined by atomic absorption spectro-photometer after removing iron and chromium existing with the lead.
Those lead can be adopted to carben steel, low and high alloy steel. And it was found that both reproductivity and accuracy were favorable. By adopting this method the analysis time could be remarkably shortened.
