1) The intensity of the primary radiation and the spacial distribution of scatttered radiations from soft X-ray apparatus with the micawindow tube (Softex Type E) were measured.
2) Under the condition of 26 kVp (Tap 3), 10 mA, the intensity of the primary radiation was measured by Victoreen chamber (Model 651), and its value was 8.6 r/sec. (F. C.D. = 30 cm.) in air.
3) The scattered radiations were measured with Portable Electrometer. This Electrometer was designed for the measurement of the scattered radiation. However, the reading of this Portable Electrometer indicated the dose rate to only 60% of the value that was obtained with Victoreen soft X-ray chamber (Model 651). Measurement was made at the distance of 40 cm from the focus on the frontal and lateral sides of the apparatus at the height of focal spot and the direction of the X-ray beam was fixed vertically. The results were as follows:
Lateral sides left side of the apparatus: 0.54 mr/sec. (the anodal side) right side of the apparatus: 0.39 mr/sec. (the cathodal side) Frontal side: 0.46 mr/sec.
4) The scattered radiation intensity could be decreased to 1/6 by surrounding the useful beam with a thin copper plate (thickness = 0.3 mm.).
5) It will be possible to bring out considerable hazards in operating the soft X-ray apparatus without using any protective measure. In operating the soft X-ray apparatus, however, we can avoid the radiation hazards more easily than in operating the conventional diagnostic X-ray apparatus.
