In order to promote the use of information retrieval systems in enterprises by means of computers and tele-communication equipment, the cooperation of engineers at plants is indispensable. The engineers will not be able to cooperate as required, unless they are made aware of the need for their positive support and unless they are well versed in current information retrieval systems and the mechanics of the language used in such systems. The persons handling information should do their utmost to improve the systems by giving full consideration to the gaps between the information needed by engineers and the function or capacity of the information retrieval systems.
