In Japan the death rate by cerebral haemorrage has become the highest of all causes of death in recent years. Moreover, its rate is fairly different by districts in Japan and remarkably higher in Tohoku (north-eastern) area.
This report is concerned with the first-year observation surveyed on 50 farmers in Tohoku twice in summer and winter 1955.
Physical form of the high blood pressure group was characterized by low stature and obesity distinguished in circumference and subcutaneous fat.
BMR of the high pressure was pretty high amounting to 115%.
Blood samples of the high pressure group showed a distinguish feature in high serum cholesterol and cholinesterase. Specially the cholesterol of the young subjects whose blood pressures were only slightly higher above normal revealed a distinctly higher level for their age. On the other hand, vitamin A and potassium in the serum of the high pressures were lower than others.
Excretion of 17-Ketosteroid of the young subjects whose blood pressures were slightly higher above normal showed a evidently lower level than the older subjects, though in the younger it should be expected much more than in the older. This inclination coincides well with the feature seen in the high level of serum cholesterol.
It is considered, from those pictures, that the disposition of essential hypertention may be built up already in their early age.
