Contemporary society faces increasingly complex challenges that require interdisciplinary approaches transcending traditional academic boundaries. While Japan’s academic community possesses highly specialized expertise, there is an urgent need for a complementary platform to evaluate and rapidly disseminate research emerging at the intersections of diverse fields. This paper reviews the trends in interdisciplinary research both in Japan and overseas, discussing the academic significance of the newly launched journal, Frontiers in Cross-Field Research. The journal features a clear definition of interdisciplinarity based on the Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) categories, a multi-perspective double-blind peer-review system, and rapid dissemination through an online, fully open-access format. By accepting a wide range of insights, including short communications, practical reports, and documentations of trial-and-error processes, the journal aims to function as a new knowledge hub that activates interactions between specialized fields. Furthermore, this journal provides a supportive environment for practitioners, such as educators, to transform field-based wisdom into public knowledge through the systematic accumulation of deductively structured insights. Through these initiatives, we aim to provide a forum for rapid academic dialogue and contribute to the future development of interdisciplinary integration in the digital age.
