Hyaluronan (HA) is one of polysaccharides in living body that is found widely in connective tissue of the mammals. It has no sulfate group but high molecular weight in comparison with other glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). We synthesized sulfated HA (S-HA) with various degrees of substitution (D.S.) in order to give HA new biological functions, since GAGs with sulfate groups interact with various biocomponents to express some specific biofunctions. Moreover in order to develop biomedical polymers, immunological response against artificial polymer matrices must be evaluated. So we measured histamine release from the mast cell and discussed the effect of S-HA on the immunological response. It was confirmed that they could be used as biomedical materials with immunological safety. And S-HA inhibited the histamine release that was induced by compound 48/80 from the mast cell. The inhibitory effect of S-HA was seemed to be due to such various factors as D.S., molecular weight, substitution site of the sulfate group and the structure of a polysaccharide chain.

In the preceding paper, it was found that a combination of the aminolysis of PET fabric by ethylenediamine and the following reaction with sugar-lactone gave a large increase of the hydrophilicity of PET fabric, but the former reaction caused decrease in its mechanical strength readily. Here, the effects of a reaction temperature of aminolysis and the structure of amines on the mechanical strength and an amount of water vapor adsorbed on it were examined. As a result, aminolysis at lower temperature or by using higher bulky amines prevented large decreases in the mechanical strength. Furthermore, we reported on the aminoiysis of PET fabric by sugar-amine (GlcNH2) synthesized from gluconolactone and ethylenediamine.

For the purpose of improving the accuracy of apparel product design or wearing simulation software, two kinds of Shingohsen SG1 and SG4, used in the previous report were employed to study the relationship among the material characteristics and the hanging shape, the extension in the bias direction, a thinning phenomenon and the like when sewn products were worn. 1. The thinning ratio of each sample in the bias direction was high for SG4, at a low extension, but high for SG1 at a high extension. 2. Based on a change in the thinning ratio of a full circular skirt of 60 cm in length with time, the own weight of the full circular skirt was assumed to exert an influence close to that in a state of a highly extended sample cloth. 3. The widths were recovered in a part of 20 to 30 cm down from waistline in both SG1 and SG4. This is considered as a result of the cloth contacting the body in the part and measured values depending on the shape of the body. 4. The greatest problem of the simulation in both SG1 and SG4 was that the randomness of the hemline length was not expressed. The reason for this is thought to be the simulation without consideration for properties of thinning and extension depending on the own weight of the cloth or the contacting figure type.

In this paper, we report the performance of dust respirators using the high-performance resin wool filters (Mighty-Micron Filter and Uni-Micron Filter) followed by the national certificate examination. The developed resin wool filters showed a high efficiency for the collection of NaCl particles and DOP oil mist having various size distributions. Furthermore, the efficiency for the collection of oil mist was maintained for a long period compared to that of the former filters. Our filters are usable in various applications as high efficiency filters as well as dust respirators.

The thermally stimulated currents of the model resin wool filters were measured. The model resin wool filters were the impregnated wool felts with the p-t-butylphenolformaldehyde (PTBP) resin. Wool felts did not show the characteristic spectrum of thermally stimulated current at 20∼200°C, while the model resin wool filter showed the spectrum at 185∼195°C. The intensity of spectrum increased in proportion to the quantity of PTBP resin. These results indicate that the electrostatic force of the model resin wool filters is due to the polarization within the mechanically charging impregnated resins.
