Barites, beautiful green in color, were found at several manganese ore deposits in the Tanba mountain region, Kyoto Prefecture. They occur as isolated grains or minute veinlets in so called massive “chocolate” ores.
Some mineralogical properties of a specimen from the Kihata mine were determined as follows:
G=4.1(10°C)
Nx=1.636, Ny=1.637, Nz=1.646
Nz-Nx=0.010, (+)2V=39°
The results of chemical analyses and an X-ray diffraction analysis are shown in Tables 2 and 3.
