Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT) has established global education system with cooperative global researches by GIGAKU TECHNOPARTK (GTP). Since 2015, NUT is placing more emphasis on globalization due to participation in Top Global University Project in Japan, supporting with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). The construction of GTP offices has been continued to be progressing higher engineering education with advanced skills through academia-company-government cooperation at Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Mexico, India, Mongolia, Spain and Rumania through 2015-2019. Especially, the GTP offices located in ASEAN and Mexico are important as the location of strategic areas for Japanese companies, where overseas business activities are expanding. So, efficient collaboration with oversea academia and the subsidiary becomes strong support of the business, especially in small medium enterprise by using the GTP network. Additionally, this project acetates globalization of academic-company in the strategic countries and support engineering educational programs with GIGAKU philosophy, strongly contributing the development of innovative technologies in their countries and finally reaching to producing global engineers with advanced technologies. This article overviews the currently progressing in the GTP network in the view points of educational programs and academia-company research collaboration.

Due to the need for globalization in recent years, Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT) has been promoting globalization in collaboration with overseas partners constructing an Integrated Global Campus among industry, academia, and government, aimed at overseas development of education and research based on GIGAKU (Science of Technology) ideals. In order to manage this project efficiently, NUT has arranged for coordinators in each overseas core to promote human resource exchange between Japan and their countries and joint research and employment with companies. Especially, the activities in each country have been contributed to train engineers with practical and global knowledge. The activities of Gigaku Techno Park in Mexico (GTP Mx) are presented as a result of the international collaboration of Nagaoka University of Technology(NUT) and University of Guanajuato (UG). According to philosophy of GIGAKU, GTP Mx agrees with the triple helix relationship in academy¬industry and government cooperation. As focused on promoting the international experience of engineering students by utilizing the global international networks, short-medium international academic and industrial stays were implemented as part of joint research project between a university and company. In addition, regionally specific engineer training programs are effective for regional development in graduate study for cooperative academic programs as Double Degree Program (DDP) and undergraduate one for TSU, which is similar to Japanese KOSEN. Both programs specially contribute to produce globally minded human resources for Mexican industry in Guanajuato and mainly subsidiaries of Japanese automotive companies established in Mexico.

A brief summary of seven years’ activity of laboratory’s collaboration with a global-oriented company was reviewed. The approaches of visiting a domestic or remote factory, and that of classifying the factory’s needs into several levels (as laboratory’s topics, or technical training topics) were discussed and arranged. Through several academic topics, how to schedule and expand a lot of technical and cultural (daily life at a factory in a half year) requests was illustrated.

This article describes the formation and development process of Gigaku Techno Park (GTP) network in Ho Chi Minh City. GTP network accumulates many local campuses located in strategic countries, which are established by Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT) with the aim of promoting industry-academia-government collaboration. Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) has been selected as a strategic partner focusing on two fundamental goals: (1) International research collaboration and (2) Practical and global engineers education. To support the implementation of the above two goals, HCMUT-NUT office was established at HCMUT in July 2019. The office is a gateway between universities and Vietnamese and Japanese enterprises to implement 3 main tasks: research collaboration, bussiness matching and recruitment. This article will introduce the office's activities, challenges and future cooperation opportunities.

Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT) has opened a Gigaku Techno Park (GTP) office in cooperation with Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) and the Vietnam Japan International Institute for Science of Technology (VJIIST), in order to culture practical, innovative, and global engineers as based on university linkage of Japan-Vietnam by participating industrial partners of both countries. Based on the science of technology innovation, GTP has actively conducted R&D in Hanoi by participation of HUST Vietnam’s researchers and students in the projects. To conduct high quality research and development in Vietnam by cooperation with NUT, these joint programs with Japan are effective means of developing practical global engineers for both HUST and NUT students.

Computational fluid dyanmics (CFD) simulations are widely performed in the design of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. The swirling induction type (SWIT) displacement HVAC system has been proposed as more efficient ventilation system than ordinary displacement ventilation systems. We develop a CFD simulation model of an existing large factory equipped with the SWIT system and then numerical results are validated by on-site measurements at the large factory. It is confirmed that the developed simulation model is an effective and reasonable approach to predict the ventilation performance at design phase.

In Malaysia, the outcome of academia-industry collaboration base upon the module or fundamental philosophy used for the collaboration, has been brought about GIGAKU philosophy, in promoting academy-industry-government collaboration between Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT). Sustainable collaboration between Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT) and Chulalongkorn University (CU) was firstly started with bilateral academic collaboration. Gigaku Techno Park (GTP) concept emphasized for the academia industry collaboration promotes staffs and student mobilities. Also, the double degree program offering the students to study in two universities supports active motivation of both relations to participate in joint research with companies and acquire them practical skills. CU– NUT collaboration has been strengthened and extended to ASEAN countries by JICA AUN/SEED-Net through GAICCE CEP program. This paper describes collaboration steppingstones from bilateral academic collaboration to a stronger network between NUT and ASEAN Universities and Industries.

In this paper, we present a collaboration between Thai Nippon Seiki Co., Ltd (TNS), Chulalongkorn University, and the Nagaoka University of Technology for introducing image processing technologies in TNS. The objective is to deliver projects that serve the company's policies which are satisfying customers' needs by maintaining the best quality, reasonable cost, and delivery in time. To improve different sections in the manufacturing process, Chulalongkorn University (CU), therefore, develops three processes (or steps or operations) using image processing to facilitate production and detect defects consist of 1). Defect Detection of Light-Guide, 2). Defect Detection of Pointer on Speedometer and 3). 2D Speedometer Component Alignment System for Punching Machine, to ease employee’s weariness, reduce human errors, and reduce production time.

We present here an overview of the activities of the GIGAKU Top Global University (TGU) project in the Basque Country. Starting from the initial collaboration between the Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT) and the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3), we describe the establishment of the BC3–NUT Office and introduce the most relevant institutions that participate in the GIGAKU-TGU project: University of Deusto, Mondragon University and MONDRAGON Corporation. Then, we summarize some testimonies of former exchange students who have realized internships within the framework of the GIGAKU Techno Park Network. Finally, we present our conclusions drawn from the last six years of institutional collaborations and from the personal experiences of the internship students.
