    The tensile strength of fabrics is influenced not only by the degree of moisture content or humidity, but also by the shape of the test piece largely. The author used plain fabrics such as beltduck, hose fabric and T-cloths as their test materials. The degree of moisture content, conditions of temperature and humidity of each material and rate of travel of the power actuated grip were all kept constant, and tensile tests were made on tests picces with different shapes. The maximum value of tensile strength was 32. 552. 5 % over the minimum value. This difference was larger in a fabric with close texture. As regards elongation, the values obtained had no relation with tensile strength, as there was shear of yarn.

    The author made experiments on the formation reaction of trimethylsulfonium iodide, by causing methyl iodide react, in a sealed tube at 100°C for 2 hours, with benzyl mercaptan mono-, di-, tri-, and tetrasulfides and with tolyl mercaptan mono-, di-, tri-and tetra-sulfides. Benzyl mercapton mono-, di-, tri-and tetra-sulfides all reacted and gave trimethyl sulfonium iodide, while tolyl mercaptan mono-, di-, tri-and tetra-sulfide and sulphur did not act with methyl iodide. On these reactions also were made considerations.

    The authors made experiments to see the influense of higher aliphatic amines (lauryl amine, stearyl amine, their acetates, stearyl trimethyl ammonium chloride) used for vulcanisation of natural rubber on the vulcanization reaction, physical properties and aging of the vulcanisates. Higher aliphatic amines, when added as vulcanization acceleator, accelerate vulcanization remarkably and raise both tensile strength and hardness. This accelerating effect rises in the following order : lauryl amine acetate, stearyl amine acetate lauryl amine, stearyl amine, stearyl trimethyl ammonium chloride. Higher aliphatic amine can be used by itself as vulcanization accelerator, but has a tendency to over-vulcanize quickly, making the vulcanization time shorter. Aging is also accelerated, probably the later part of vulcanization being a factor of the ageing, as can be supposed from reactivity of_higher aliphatic amine. Higher aliphatic amine can be used effectively as dispersing agent or releasing agent. It is considered possible to use these amines with good result in the form of their derivatives and, when compounded as should be, chemical for rubber industry.

    It is often seen that, in the couse of manufacturing processes of rubber articles, blooming of the intermediate rubber materials is an impediment to these processes; for example, in the case of auto-tyre, bloom of rubber topped on the cord or bloom on the surface of tread rubber hinders adhesion and causes ply-separation on tread separation. Further, for rubber goods such as footwear which are built up by adhesion, blooming causes a trouble in manufacturing.
    It is generally considered that blooming of sulphur is caused by cooling down and supersaturation of sulphur which melted at the temperature of milling of rubber, by crystallization at the point of the surface where something has incited it, and by migration of the inner sulphur to the surface where the crystal forms a nncleus.
    The blooming which appears first in the part of rubber under treatment where the hand has touched can be prevented by covering the surface of rubber with cellophane and thus pushing rubber out of contact with the air. In foreign factories, the surface of rubber leaving rolls or a calender is covered with cellophane and thus adhesiveness is kept and, at the seme time, blooming is prevented. In a large-scale industry as auto-tyre manufacturing, non-blooming sulphur is used for this purpose.
    Non-blooming sulphur consists chiefly of Sμ in amorphous S (one of the varieties of Sul-phur with low solubility in rubber) and recently put on the market by Stauffer Co. and Monsant Co.
    The authors have studied under what conditions blooming occurs more readily and give the results obtained from their experiments on separation of non-blooming sulphur.
