Modification of polyurethane elastomers was carried out by the addition of methyl methacrylate (MMA) or poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), in one-shot polymerization system in the presence of triethylene diamine with epoxy resin as a catalyst, and the physical properties of modified elastomers were examined.
The modified polyurethanes prepared by this.method were superior in the tensile properties to the control sample. The stress relaxation time of MMA-added polyurethanes, at elevated temperature, was longer than that of PMMA-added and control sample.
There were remarkable differences between MMA-and PMMA-added polyurethanes, on dinamic and dielectric relaxation behaviors.
Therefore, it seems that an added MMA is bonded to the main chain of polyurethane. From these results, the reaction mechanism was discussed.
