A novel crosslinking reaction of hydroxyl-terminated liquid polybutadiene (HT-PB) was investigated. Lewis acid derivatives (boric acid, borax, aluminium alkoxide, silicate, alkylorthotitanate, phosphite and thiophosphite) and amide type metal compounds (silylamine and aminophosphine) were used as curing agents. It was observed that the viscosity of HT-PB increased by the addition of boric acid, aluminium alkoxide and alkylorthotitanate. Particularly the adding of alminium isopropoxide gave a tight cured sheet. HT-PB did not react with silicate, phosphite and thiophosphite. On the other hand, it was cured quickly with the amide type metal compounds. Especially in case of silylamine, the use of epoxy resin and carbon black gave a cured product having a tensile strength of 23kgf/cm2.

Several phosphorus compounds were examined as curing agents for liquid hydroxyl-terminated 1, 4-polybutadiene (HT-PB).
Phosphorous pentoxide (P2O6) and polyphosphoric acid (approx. H6P4O13) yielded partially cross-linked polymers because of their poor compatibility and extreme reactivity with HT-PB. Phosphoric acid yielded poorly cross-linked polymers because of its low reactivity. On the contrary, a homogeneously cross-linked elastomer was obtained by use of pyrophosphoric acid (H4P2O7). The mechanical properties of the elastomer filled with carbon black (15vol.%) were as follows; HS=45, M100=21kgf/cm2, TB=37kgf/cm2 and EB=135%.
In addition, the cross-linking mechanism of this system was also discussed.

The cross-linking reaction of liquid hydroxyl-terminated 1, 4-polybutadiene (HT-PB) was investigated using polyphosphoric acid derivatives, which were modified by compounds having alcoholic or phenolic hydroxyl groups.
The modification improved the poor compatibility and the extreme reactivity of polyphosphoric acid with HT-PB to provide homogeneously cured elastomer. The mechanical properties of the elastomer filled with carbon black (15vol.%) were as follows; HS=76, M100=67kgf/cm2, TB=140kgf/cm2 and EB=155%.
