Zinc salt of 6-R-1, 3, 5-triazine-2, 4-dithiol (I-Zn) has been found to be an effective crosslinking agent for TW type chloroprene rubber to give a scorh-resistant compound and an ageing resistant crosslinked product. Similar effects have been observed on W type chloroprene compounded with I-Zn and DM.Typical crosslinking formulations for TW and W type rubber are as follows: I-Zn (R: NHC
6H
5) 1.0, ZnO5, MgO4phr;I-Zn (R:NHC
6H
5) 1.5, DM1.0, ZnO5, MgO4phr, respectively.
Chloroprene crosslinking reaction comprising a binary system of I-Zn and DM is considered to proceed through the formation of dithiotriazinyl crosslinks which take place by means of substitution of active chlorine atom with I or I-Zn and by dithiotriazinyl radical initiation which is yielded from I in the precence of DM.*Studies on Polymer Reaction with Triazine Thiol and the Application to Polymer Industry VI.
